According to the Motor Vehicle Act of 1988, no one is allowed to operate a motor vehicle in a public area unless they have a valid driver’s licence that grants them permission to do so. Therefore, a driver’s licence is a must to operate any type of vehicle.
Driving licences can be broadly divided into two categories: learner’s licences and permanent licences. Depending on the type of vehicle, there are several different sorts of driving licences:

An applicant must first apply for a learner’s permit before applying for a permanent driving licence in Assam. This licence is temporary and is only good for six months. Beginning on September 3rd, 2021, the Assam government will permit online registration for the learner’s permit test.

Assam’s requirements for obtaining a driver’s licence
The following requirements must be met in order to apply for a driving licence in Assam, whether it be a learner’s permit or a permanent one:
# The applicant must be at least 18 years old.

By visiting the official website of the Assam Government’s Transport Department, interested and qualified candidates may submit an online application for a learner’s driving licence. Candidates can apply for a driving licence online by following the instructions below.
# Scroll down to the section labelled Important Web Links.
# A new webpage will open after clicking the “Online Application” link.
# After that, select “Online Services,” then “Driving Licence Related Services,” then “Assam” from the drop-down menu.
‘Contactless Licence Services’ will appear as a pop-up notification. ‘Issue of Learner’s Licence’ should be chosen.
# After reading the “Instructions for Application Submission,” press the next button.
# Select the car category, make your selection, and press the “Submit” button.
# “Authentication with e-KYC” page will appear. Click the “Submit” button after selecting the “Submit via Aadhaar Authentication” option.
# Type your Aadhaar number into the box provided and press the “Generate OTP button.” Your Aadhaar-registered cellphone number will receive the OTP. Put in the OTP, check every box on the page, and then click the “Authenticate” button.
# Upload your signature after authentication, then make an online payment.
# Using the application number produced and the password supplied to the registered cellphone number, you can log in after making the payment. An obligatory video lesson will play, and the applicant is required to watch it through (without skipping any parts). The Learner’s Test will then start. The test can be taken at any time and from any location (home or elsewhere) by the applicant.
# Your test result will be shown to you after.
